Hawkins-Kennedy Test
Special Test
Assesses subacromial impingement.
Purpose
Screen for Hawkins-Kennedy findings.
Execution
- Elevate the arm to 90 deg of shoulder flexion
- Flex the elbow to 90 deg
- Stabilize the shoulder and internally rotate the arm
- Observe pain or apprehension
- Compare sides
Key Observations
- Shoulder flexion 90 deg with forced internal rotation
- Pain indicates a positive test
Views
Protocol
- Observe from: frontal.
- Standardize start position and instructions.
- Perform 2-3 trials per side when applicable.
- Record key observations and any positive indicators.
- Compare left vs right when applicable.
