Hawkins-Kennedy Test

Special Test

Assesses subacromial impingement.

Purpose

Screen for Hawkins-Kennedy findings.

Execution

  1. Elevate the arm to 90 deg of shoulder flexion
  2. Flex the elbow to 90 deg
  3. Stabilize the shoulder and internally rotate the arm
  4. Observe pain or apprehension
  5. Compare sides

Protocol

  1. Observe from: frontal.
  2. Standardize start position and instructions.
  3. Perform 2-3 trials per side when applicable.
  4. Record key observations and any positive indicators.
  5. Compare left vs right when applicable.
