Modified Thomas Test

Flexibility

Modified version to differentiate specific restrictions.

Purpose

Screen for Modified Thomas findings.

Execution

  1. Lie supine at the edge of a table
  2. Pull one knee to the chest to flatten the lumbar spine
  3. Allow the test leg to hang relaxed
  4. Observe thigh position and knee flexion angle
  5. Repeat on the other side

Protocol

  1. Observe from: lateral.
  2. Standardize start position and instructions.
  3. Perform 2-3 trials per side when applicable.
  4. Record key observations and any positive indicators.
  5. Compare left vs right when applicable.
