Modified Thomas Test
Flexibility
Modified version to differentiate specific restrictions.
Purpose
Screen for Modified Thomas findings.
Execution
- Lie supine at the edge of a table
- Pull one knee to the chest to flatten the lumbar spine
- Allow the test leg to hang relaxed
- Observe thigh position and knee flexion angle
- Repeat on the other side
Key Observations
- Differentiate rectus femoris vs psoas
- Assess TFL (thigh abduction)
Views
Protocol
- Observe from: lateral.
- Standardize start position and instructions.
- Perform 2-3 trials per side when applicable.
- Record key observations and any positive indicators.
- Compare left vs right when applicable.
