Corrective Exercise Toolkit

Ober Test

Classic test to evaluate tensor fasciae latae and iliotibial band tension. Positive if the leg fails to drop to horizontal.

Purpose

Screen for Ober findings.

Execution

  1. Lie on the side with the test leg on top
  2. Stabilize the pelvis to prevent tilt
  3. Extend and abduct the test hip
  4. Allow the leg to adduct toward the table
  5. Observe if the thigh drops past midline

Protocol

  1. Observe from: side.
  2. Standardize start position and instructions.
  3. Perform 2-3 trials per side when applicable.
  4. Record key observations and any positive indicators.
  5. Compare left vs right when applicable.
