Ober Test
Classic test to evaluate tensor fasciae latae and iliotibial band tension. Positive if the leg fails to drop to horizontal.
Purpose
Screen for Ober findings.
Execution
- Lie on the side with the test leg on top
- Stabilize the pelvis to prevent tilt
- Extend and abduct the test hip
- Allow the leg to adduct toward the table
- Observe if the thigh drops past midline
Key Observations
- Thigh adduction toward the table
- Pelvic stability during the test
Views
Protocol
- Observe from: side.
- Standardize start position and instructions.
- Perform 2-3 trials per side when applicable.
- Record key observations and any positive indicators.
- Compare left vs right when applicable.
