Push-Up Assessment
Movement Screen
Assesses scapular and core control during a push-up.
Purpose
Screen for trunk and scapular control during a push-up.
Execution
- Start in a plank position with hands under shoulders
- Perform controlled push-ups to a consistent depth
- Observe trunk alignment and scapular control
- Note compensations such as sagging or winging
- Repeat 3-5 reps
Key Observations
- Maintain a plank position
- Scapular motion (winging)
- Elbows 20-45 deg from the torso
- Chest close to the floor
Views
Protocol
- Observe from: lateral, superior.
- Standardize start position and instructions.
- Perform 2-3 trials per side when applicable.
- Record key observations and any positive indicators.
- Compare left vs right when applicable.
