Scapular Assistance Test (SAT)
Special Test
Manual assistance into upward rotation; improvement suggests dyskinesis.
Purpose
Screen for Scapular Assistance findings.
Execution
- Have the client elevate the arm in the scapular plane
- Manually assist scapular upward rotation and posterior tilt
- Repeat the arm elevation with assistance
- Note changes in pain or range
- Compare to the unassisted movement
Key Observations
- Pain improvement with assistance indicates a positive test
- Suggests a scapular component
Views
Protocol
- Observe from: lateral.
- Standardize start position and instructions.
- Perform 2-3 trials per side when applicable.
- Record key observations and any positive indicators.
- Compare left vs right when applicable.
