Shoulder Internal Rotation at 90 deg Abduction
Mobility
Assesses glenohumeral internal rotation (GIRD).
Purpose
Screen for Shoulder Internal Rotation at 90 deg Abduction findings.
Execution
- Lie supine with shoulder abducted to 90 deg
- Flex the elbow to 90 deg and stabilize the scapula
- Rotate the forearm toward the table into internal rotation
- Stop before the shoulder lifts
- Compare sides
Key Observations
- Normal >70 deg
- Compare bilaterally
- Total arc (ER + IR) >180 deg
Views
Protocol
- Observe from: supine.
- Standardize start position and instructions.
- Perform 2-3 trials per side when applicable.
- Record key observations and any positive indicators.
- Compare left vs right when applicable.
