Shoulder Internal Rotation at 90 deg Abduction

Mobility

Assesses glenohumeral internal rotation (GIRD).

Purpose

Screen for Shoulder Internal Rotation at 90 deg Abduction findings.

Execution

  1. Lie supine with shoulder abducted to 90 deg
  2. Flex the elbow to 90 deg and stabilize the scapula
  3. Rotate the forearm toward the table into internal rotation
  4. Stop before the shoulder lifts
  5. Compare sides

Protocol

  1. Observe from: supine.
  2. Standardize start position and instructions.
  3. Perform 2-3 trials per side when applicable.
  4. Record key observations and any positive indicators.
  5. Compare left vs right when applicable.
