TFL Frontal Plane Assessment
Mobility
Frontal plane check during modified Thomas position to assess TFL stiffness.
Purpose
Screen for TFL Frontal Plane findings.
Execution
- Set the client in the modified Thomas position
- View the test leg from the frontal plane
- Observe thigh alignment relative to the trunk
- Note abduction at rest indicating TFL stiffness
- Compare sides
Key Observations
- Thigh alignment relative to the trunk
- Abduction at rest indicating TFL shortening
Views
Protocol
- Observe from: frontal.
- Standardize start position and instructions.
- Perform 2-3 trials per side when applicable.
- Record key observations and any positive indicators.
- Compare left vs right when applicable.
