TFL Frontal Plane Assessment

Mobility

Frontal plane check during modified Thomas position to assess TFL stiffness.

Purpose

Screen for TFL Frontal Plane findings.

Execution

  1. Set the client in the modified Thomas position
  2. View the test leg from the frontal plane
  3. Observe thigh alignment relative to the trunk
  4. Note abduction at rest indicating TFL stiffness
  5. Compare sides

Protocol

  1. Observe from: frontal.
  2. Standardize start position and instructions.
  3. Perform 2-3 trials per side when applicable.
  4. Record key observations and any positive indicators.
  5. Compare left vs right when applicable.
