Thomas Test

Flexibility

Assesses hip flexor length (psoas, rectus femoris, TFL).

Purpose

Screen for Thomas findings.

Execution

  1. Lie supine on a table with the pelvis neutral
  2. Pull one knee to the chest
  3. Keep the other leg relaxed on the table
  4. Observe hip extension and knee position
  5. Repeat on the other side

Protocol

  1. Observe from: lateral.
  2. Standardize start position and instructions.
  3. Perform 2-3 trials per side when applicable.
  4. Record key observations and any positive indicators.
  5. Compare left vs right when applicable.
