Thoracic Kyphosis Measurement
Posture
Measure thoracic kyphosis using a flexicurve or inclinometer.
Purpose
Screen for Thoracic Kyphosis Measurement findings.
Execution
- Stand relaxed with arms at sides
- Mold the flexicurve along the thoracic spine
- Trace the curve on paper or measure directly
- Calculate or estimate the kyphosis angle
- Document the value
Key Observations
- Normal 20-40 deg (Cobb angle)
- >40 deg indicates hyperkyphosis
Views
Protocol
- Observe from: lateral.
- Standardize start position and instructions.
- Perform 2-3 trials per side when applicable.
- Record key observations and any positive indicators.
- Compare left vs right when applicable.
